Robert Lewandowski gives Barcelona three points in injury time against Valencia, Koundé sustains a thigh injury and has to fear for the World Cup

French international Jules Koundé suffered an injury to the left thigh leg with his club FC Barcelona on Saturday evening, three weeks before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. The 23-year-old Koundé had to step aside after 73 minutes. It is still unclear whether the defender should make a cross about his World Cup participation.

Koundé came over from series rivals Sevilla last summer and immediately turned out to be one of the strongholds in the Catalan defense. At Les Bleus he has twelve caps to his name. Injury-free, he is one of the contenders for a basic place in the back of the team of national coach Didier Deschamps, which has to deal with an injury wave. The French also saw Raphaël Varane out with an injury last week. According to Koundé himself, however, there is not much going on and it is more about overload. In the interviews after the match, he denounced the excess of matches.

Earlier, Edinson Cavani also had to leave the field early. The Uruguayan striker felt his right ankle and then left the field limping. He was replaced in the 18th minute by Marcos André. Two weeks ago, in the match against Elche (2-2), he also asked for a replacement due to ankle problems. It remains to be seen whether El Matador will be fit for the World Cup in Qatar.

Barcelona eventually won 0-1 in the Mestalla Stadium and is more or less recovering from the 0-3 uproar against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. In Valencia, Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal deep in added time, on the pass of substitute Raphinha.

In the standings, Barça are currently in the lead with 31 points. Real Madrid also has 31 points, but the national champion has played one game less. They will receive Gerona in Bernabeu on Sunday.
