PSG: Sporting Director Campos – It was a mistake signing Neymar AND Mbappé – INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Great statement from the PSG sports boss!

Luis Campos (58) has been in charge of the French since this summer. According to media reports, the Portuguese was hired at the request of Kylian Mbappé (23), who knew Campos from his time at AS Monaco.

Officially, Campos is a strategic sports advisor, but works in cooperation with the new coach Christophe Galtier (55) as a kind of sports director.

The new boss team has made a rocket start with PSG. The Parisians won seven of eight league games, only playing 1-1 against Monaco. The Sheikh club also clinched two wins in both Champions League games against Juventus (2-1) and Maccabi Haifa (3-1).

Mainly responsible for the strong start: The offensive duo Mbappé and Neymar (30)!

Neymar has scored an incredible 19 points in eleven competitive games so far, Mbappé has scored ten times in nine games. All the more surprising what Campos says about his striker stars.

The football consultant revealed to the podcast “Rothen s’enflamme” from “RMC Sport” that the commitment of the two in the summer of 2017 was a mistake.

Campos: “In the past we made the mistake of recruiting two players for the same position.”

Five years ago, Paris paid Barcelona a record €222m for Neymar. That same summer, PSG loaned Mbappé from Monaco and signed him a year later for €180m.

Despite the dream storm, which now also includes Lionel Messi (35), PSG has not yet been able to win the long-awaited Champions League title. In 2020, the team lost 1-0 to Bayern in the final.

Campos is also not completely satisfied with his club’s past transfer window. He says: “The transfer window was not good because we lack players in key positions and because we have overlaps in other positions.”

Although PSG invested a whopping 147.5 million euros in the summer to get the squad fit for the first pot. The start of the season so far should actually make Campos optimistic…
