Now Pep Guardiola (51) is countering Gündogan’s wife’s restaurant criticism!
Before the 4-0 pep squad Manchester City against Southampton, the Spanish top coach joked with Ilkay Güngogans (31) and wife Sara Arfaoui (27) by inviting them both to dinner.
Guardiola: “What disappoints me is that they haven’t been to my restaurant yet. I will invite her and also Gundo (Gündogan, editor’s note) to my restaurant. Then we will eat really well.”
Reason for the delicious offer: Arfaoui had complained about the food in Manchester on Instagram! The Italian nailed Manchester’s “horrible frozen food” in her Instagram Story.
The only problem is that Gündogan’s “boss” Pep Guardiola also owns a top Spanish restaurant called “Tast” in the English industrial metropolis.
trigger for the whole debate: Arfaoui was asked about her favorite restaurant in town. She wrote: “Sorry to be honest – but nothing. I tried so hard to find a good restaurant but terrible food everywhere.”
And further: “I can’t find real Italian or good sushi or just fresh food … only frozen everywhere.”
And she concluded: “The restaurants here focus on cashing in on drinks and shots. Like night clubs, not quality food. Maybe in London but nothing in Manchester. I am sorry.”
RUMMS!
Noted restaurant critic Jay Rayner: “A ridiculous view. Manchester is packed with brilliant independent restaurants.”
A restaurant owner: “There are so many great restaurants in Manchester. I suggest you do your research before you speak.”
Another venomous comment: “And that’s only because your husband is a footballer and you have money and he probably paid for everything and gave you a great life here in Manchester.”
Sara counters: “So, because we’re successful, we can’t be honest? I’ve tried all the top restaurants here, but for me it’s a no. I can not lie. Unfortunately, I’m used to Italy. So you can imagine that the comparison is difficult.”
Still, Sara concedes, “Manchester is a great city, great people. But that does not apply to restaurants.”
Even for “Mana”, which was the first restaurant in the city in 40 years to receive a Michelin star in 2019, Sara is no exception.
“Mana” owner Simon Martin on the “Sun”: The idea that restaurants here only serve frozen food is of course absurd.
