Philippe Gilbert’s cycling career is now really over. With “Phil’s Last Ride” he waved goodbye to his supporters one last time.
Despite the heavy rain, a lot of fans showed up for Philippe Gilbert’s farewell party in Valkenburg, entitled “Phil’s Last Ride”.
For that farewell criterion on “his” Cauberg, where he became world champion in 2012 and also won the Amstel Gold Race 4 times, many colleagues came to say goodbye to Gilbert.
The rain didn’t make it an obvious match, but as it goes in these kind of farewell parties, the birthday girl was allowed to cheer at the end. Fabio Jakobsen and Arnaud De Lie finished in 2 and 3.
After the finish Gilbert literally hung his bike on the hook. Last Sunday he had ridden his last professional race with Paris-Tours.
