Football: Real Madrid are Spanish champions ahead of schedule

Real Madrid are early Spanish football champions. The team won their home game against FC Cadiz 3-0 on Saturday. FC Girona won against second-placed FC Barcelona 4:2 (1:2). This means that Barcelona can no longer displace Real in the remaining four matchdays in the Primera División.

Four days before the semi-final second leg in the Champions League against Bayern, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti again rested numerous regular players in the league, including the German national players Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger as well as Jude Bellingham, who was later substituted. Belgian national goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was back on the pitch for the first time after a month-long break due to a torn cruciate ligament. Brahim Díaz (51st), former Dortmund Bellingham (68th) and Joselu (90th + 3) scored the goals for Real.

Andreas Christensen (3rd) and Robert Lewandowski (45th + 1) scored for Barça. Barça had led 2-1 until halftime. Artem Dovbyk scored the goal for Girona (4th). In the second half, the hosts in Girona managed to equalize and finally take the lead through Portu (65th/75th) and Miguel Gutierrez (67th).

Real now have 87 points as leaders. Girona is now in second place in the table with 74 points, ahead of Barcelona (73). The Spanish newspaper close to Real Brand reported in the evening with a live video from the capital. Another video showed the Real professionals celebrating in the evening with loud shouts of “Campeones”. “We are champions! Hala Madrid! Well deserved – I love this club,” wrote Rüdiger on X.
