Persija Jakarta Players Transported by Barracuda Ahead of Facing Persib Bandung, Thomas Doll: Shame! : Okezone Ball

TRAINER Persija Jakarta, Thomas Doll, deeply regretted the moment when all Persija Jakarta personnel were transported using armored vehicles or barracudas when they were about to meet Persib Bandung. He said things like this should not have happened, considering that football is very modern nowadays.

The Persib Bandung vs Persija Jakarta match was originally scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at night WIB. However, the match was finally canceled due to the rioting of the Arema FC vs. Persebaya Surabaya match on Saturday, October 1, 2022 evening WIB.

Before the tragedy at Kanjuruhan Stadium occurred, Thomas Doll spoke at a press conference ahead of the Persib Bandung vs Persija Jakarta match on Saturday, October 1, 2022 evening WIB. Thomas Doll said he was surprised by the use of armored vehicles to transport players and coaches.

Thomas Doll who often feels the heat of the derby atmosphere is sad to see this. According to him, things like this should not be done. Because, actually the audience came to the stadium to watch the match.

“I know, I played a lot of derby games. I played in Rome, Dortmund, Schalke, Hamburg and other places in Europe. But, I never came wearing a Tank to the stadium,” said Thomas Doll at a press conference before the match, quoted on Monday (3/10/2022).

“When I first heard about it (wearing armored vehicles to the stadium), it made me very sad. I’m disappointed, because everyone here loves football, wants to see their favorite team play. The family came to the stadium, the kids too.”

“We have to represent Indonesian football. They (foreigners) see us going to the stadium with Baracuda in 2022, it’s a shame,” added Thomas Doll.

“I love the fans, wherever I play and coach. I know how important the derby game is. But I also know how important it is for everyone to return home safe and healthy.”

Therefore, the Persija Jakarta coach has an important message for Indonesian football in the future. The former Borussia Dortmund coach said things that threatened anyone’s safety should not happen again.

“It’s the same as when Persib went to Jakarta, so it doesn’t apply only today in Bandung. It’s not an ordinary game, but we have to handle it well,” said Thomas Doll.

“I am 56 years old. And tomorrow I don’t know if I’ll be sitting in a Tank. There is no war here, many people laugh at this. Normally, I would stand on the sidelines to give instructions, but at the same time a foreign object was thrown from the stands. This kind of thing can’t happen. In the future, they have to think about this,” said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Input from a coach like Thomas Doll, should be an education for supporters, PSSI and other related parties. Thomas Doll is right, football is for entertainment, not for harm.
