Notes: Berber’s “heirs” wrote a secret list of targets

You are reading the web version of the Notičky newsletter, in which Luděk Mádl takes you behind the scenes of football and other sports every Thursday. If you like Notes, subscribe.

After all, that’s probably why you’re subscribing to this newsletter. And in that case, I shouldn’t disappoint you.

Prepare for anything. And then nothing will surprise you. Not even an extraordinary general meeting of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, where there could be an attempt to re-elect the entire executive committee, or its non-Moravian part.

A “civil war” has been raging in the Czech Chamber for many months. And no wonder. The more conservatively minded officials, who operated for years in the crooked Berber system, are actually the living antithesis of F-evolution, a movement that arose in football after the arrest of the all-powerful vice-president of the association, Roman Berber. And it set itself the goal of introducing other trends into the rotten football system and way of thinking than trading “tickets”, when some clubs bought the support of referees for the whole season from Berber’s gang.

Gentlemen who worked in Berber’s pyramid of power and, for example, took part in “tickets”, will of course tell you that there was nothing like that, especially not with their personal participation. And therefore they do not accept, for example, the removal of their names from the list of league delegates or the weakening of their influence in many other spheres.

This post-Berber structure still possesses an unmistakable “political power” and at the general meetings of the FAČR it still gathers more votes in the Czech Chamber than F-evolution. This is also why these people believe that Berber’s kingdom, even without Berber, can still return. And they will apply their erudition and experience in it again, as they say.

They refer to F-evolutionaries operating in their former positions as a combination of hypocrisy (“This one just has something to say about morality”) and mistakes due to inexperience, or they point to cases when someone was given a position and did not have time for it, which would not happen to them.

In a number of cases, they may be partially right, and the conservative camp is not entirely made up of infernal monsters.

The problem, however, lies in the fact that these two irreconcilable currents in the Czech Chamber continue long after the football elections in a war that is not about the well-being of Czech football, but about trying to damage, ridicule or otherwise conquer the other side.

And from both sides there are also cries about the desire to recall members of the football government, namely the votes of the delegates of the extraordinary general assembly, if it were to be convened in the winter.

It can be interpreted in different ways. For example, as retaliation by the conservatives for the unsuccessful attempt by F-evolution in June to remove the Czech vice-president Jan Richter and the chairman of the ŘKČ Martin Drobný from their positions.

The other group is now rattling the chain over the f-evolutionists in the FAČR executive committee, i.e. over Tomáš Neumann and Rudolf Řepka, whose position, according to credible insider reports, may be weakened and called into question by the forthcoming report of the FAČR Review and Control Commission on problematic IT projects of the FAČR. And that was even in the Berber era, when Řepka acted as general secretary and, as such, signed contracts, invoices and other documents, the content of which could be considered by the inspectors.

It is speculated that the conservatives will try to oust two leading members of F-evolution from Strahov, towards whom they feel a special grudge. With Ondřej Lípa, they are planning an attempt to recall him from the Sports Council, and with Jan Ďoubal from the Ethics Commission.

Probably the only person on whose evaluation F-evolution and its opponents agree is the general secretary of FAČR, Michal Valtr. The agreement should consist in the now firm position of both camps that Valtr is not performing his function in a way that would be acceptable to them.

Even the large number of business cards of the chairman of the FAČR, which Petr Fousek has not been able to distribute so far, may be at risk. In winter, they can theoretically fly into the container and someone else will print new ones.

Who? That is not known right now. And this is very good news for Petr Fousko, which gives him a decent chance to remain in the role of chairman.

For a long time, both parties have been intensively slandering him, and they do not even spare comments about the possibility of the chairman’s appeal. But watch out! Anyone who wants to remove the head of the association must have B ready for A, i.e. candidates for the position that may become vacant.

But if it is true that the candidates are neither seen nor heard from for roughly three months before the possible football elections, then it probably won’t be as hot as some people think even in the matter of recalling Petr Fousko from the role of chairman of the FAČR.

Magician of the week: Dominik Hašek

Dominik Hašek never lacked stubbornness and perseverance. Neither in the ice arenas, where he reigned as one of the best hockey goalies of all time, nor outside the sports field.

After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Hašek repeatedly harshly condemned President Putin’s regime on Twitter. And he also called for the strictest possible sanctions for Russian athletes. The dominator would like to prevent their starts in all international competitions across sports. “They could not serve as propaganda for the Putin regime,” he explains.

Recently, he was intensively involved in connection with the upcoming matches of NHL teams in Prague. Hašek even appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a personal meeting. He wanted the Russian hockey players working in the San Jose and Nashville teams not to get entry visas to the Czech territory and thus not be able to participate in the matches in Prague.

Although “Zamini” came to meet Hašek, the Russian hockey players obtained visas in another country of the Schengen area. And so he will start in Prague, even though the Dominator probably did his best for his vision.

Hits of the week

A great result? I have to say that I am rebuilding it differently. I had a bit of an argument with coach Jaroslav Šilhavy after the League of Nations.

A visit in a fairy tale. Let us invite you to the Bayern Munich stadium. It’s worth it.

Tweet of the week

Look at how much money the host countries invested not only in sports infrastructure, before welcoming the participants of the soccer world championships. Breathtaking numbers!

What they hit elsewhere

I’m a little late in the email version of the newsletter, I hope you’ll forgive me. As for the main topic of today’s Notes, I myself am really curious whether the complicated situation within the football movement will move somewhere in the winter.
