What happened? The Portuguese – again not in the starting XI – stomps into the dressing room in a rage and insults in the 90th minute. United could have changed twice. According to the English media, Ronaldo should have left the stadium directly.

The departure of shame!

He is a slap in the face for coach Erik ten Hag (52), for his team-mates and for all United fans. Ten Hag after the final whistle: “I’ll take care of it tomorrow, today we’re celebrating this win.”

And how he cares! The English record champions throw CR7 out of the squad for the game at Chelsea (tomorrow, 6:30 p.m.). The club said in a statement.

With the disrespectful frustration action, Ronaldo becomes the laughing stock of the island!

England legend Gary Lineker (61): “I’m sorry, but that’s unacceptable. That’s so pathetic.”

Since turning pro in 2002, Ronaldo has been setting records. Five times world footballer. 700 goals at club level. European Champion. Five-time Champions League winner. Champion in England, Italy and Spain.

Over many years of top performance, social commitment and a professionalism that demands respect from even the harshest critics.

Ironically, at the end of his monumental career, Ronaldo tears down his own monument!

► Unworthy of how he offered himself to countless clubs (including Dortmund) in the summer just a year after returning to his old love United – and yet had to stay because nobody wanted him.

► Inevitably he hasn’t played a role under ten Hag ever since (not in the starting XI in 10 out of 16 games).

With his disgraceful departure, CR7 alienated even longtime friends…

Ex-United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel (58): “I usually stand behind him, I understand his situation. But this is the first time I’ve been disappointed in him.”

Later on Thursday evening, Ronaldo reported via Instagram, writing among other things: “I haven’t changed. I’m still the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years of my football career and respect has always played an important role in every decision I’ve made.”

And further: “I started very young, the older and more experienced players were very important to me as role models. That’s why I later tried to be a role model for the younger players I played with. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, and it hits even the best of us in the heat of the moment.”

BILD says: Ronaldo’s pride was instrumental in his rise – and is now driving him into an undignified downfall.
