Luis Díaz is in 17th place in the Ballon d’Or

Luis Fernando Díaz added a new chapter to the successful career he is having in European football. This Monday it was located in the 17th position of the Ballon d’Or, award that recognizes the best players of the 2021/2022 season.

Diaz finished above world-class footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid) and his teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Núñez. This was his first nomination for the Ballon d’Or, being the third Colombian to achieve it. Before there were Radamel Falcao García (2012 and 2013) and James Rodríguez (2014 and 2015).

Lucho added the same votes and shared 17th position with Casemiro -today at Manchester United- and Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus in Turin. It is without a doubt the greatest individual achievement of his sports career.

The Liverpool winger entered the race for the France Football Ballon d’Or after a spectacular campaign, first with Porto and then with the English team. In 21/22 he played a total of 54 games in which he scored 22 goals and gave 10 assists. In terms of titles, he won the Portuguese League and Cup, and the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup in England.

The winner of the trophy will be announced this Monday at the gala to be held in Paris, France. The great candidate to take this Ballon d’Or is the French Karim Benzema, captain and maximum figure of Real Madrid. Other options are Kylian Mbappé, Robert Lewandowski and Vinicius Junior. Lionel Messi did not make the top 30 list.
