“Kaveh Rezaei arrested in Iran for protest against regime” | Foreign football

Official information from Iran is scarce and unreliable, but human rights organization Hengaw, among others, reports that Kaveh Rezaei has been arrested. The family of the 30-year-old attacker is said to have confirmed this.

Rezaei, who returned to Iran after 5 seasons in Belgium last summer to play for Tractor, did not hold back in his criticism of the government in recent days.

Protests in the Islamic Republic flared up when Mahsa Amini was killed after she was arrested for not wearing her headscarf in a correct manner.

Since then, the population has been moving all over the country. Just before the international match against Senegal, the football players of Iran made a silent protest. Rezaei’s criticism was a lot less subtle and he, like some other colleagues, now apparently has to pay the price.
