Five new golds were won by the Colombian delegation on Wednesday at the Asunción 2022 South American Games. The new titles came in diving, archery and taekwondo.

During Wednesday’s day at the Asunción 2022 South American Games, Colombia managed to get on the podium 25 times, five of them to celebrate a new gold medal.

Closing the diving competitions, Luis Felipe Uribe added his second gold by winning the 1-meter springboard test, a test in which the Colombian Sebastián Morales hung the silver, while Daniela Zapata and Viviana Uribe were the best on the springboard 3 meters.

With the two golds of the day, Colombia took 7 of the 8 golds delivered by the dives, reaffirming itself as a great South American power.

Archery competitions were also closed on Wednesday. The multi-champion Sara López took the gold in the compound bow, in a test dominated by the Colombians: the silver went to María Valentina Suárez, while the bronze went to Alejandra Usquiano, for the national 1-2-3.

For his part, Jorge Enriquez was crowned recurve bow champion, beating Brazilian Marcus Vinicius Carvalho. The bronze went to fellow Colombian Andrés Pila.

After the archery competitions, Colombia won 6 of the 10 gold medals in dispute, dominating the discipline.

Finally, the multi-champion Andrea Ramírez had a brilliant performance in the -49 kilos category in taekwondo. The Colombian defeated Talisca Jezierski dos Reis (Brazil) in the grand final and won the South American gold.

At the end of the day, Colombia added 5 golds, 9 silvers and 11 bronzes, to accumulate in the grand total 33 golds, 38 silvers and 37 bronzes, occupying second place after Brazil (56-44-33).

Thursday will deliver a total of 15 gold medals, which will be the day with the fewest gold medals in the Games. The finals will be played in sailing, which will close its activities, taekwondo, artistic gymnastics, beach soccer and fencing on its penultimate day.
