Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola can barely comprehend Erling Haaland’s statistics. The Norwegian striker made another impression against Manchester United (6-3) on Sunday with a hat trick and has already scored fourteen goals after eight Premier League matches.
By our sports editors“Those numbers are frightening. Erling is so hungry and so eager to score. The quality we have in the squad helps him do that. But I can’t teach him what he does,” said Guardiola.
“He has an incredibly good instinct. He got that from his mother and father, he was born with it. Erling does with us what he also did in Norway, Austria and Germany: score.”
City paid €60 million last summer to sign 22-year-old Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. He didn’t score in his first game (for the Community Shield against Liverpool), but after that it started to run.
In City’s previous two home games in the Premier League, Haaland has also scored a hat-trick. He has already scored three times in two matches on behalf of his new club in the Champions League.

Haaland: ‘It’s not going bad’
Haaland himself remained sober after his star role against Manchester United. “It’s not bad,” he said. “I’ve never made a hat-trick in three home games in a row. It’s great. What more can I say?”
The United of coach Erik ten Hag was outplayed on Sunday in the Etihad Stadium. In addition to Haaland, Phil Foden also scored three times. Antony and Anthony Martial (twice) were effective on behalf of the visitors.
Haaland and City continue the season on Wednesday with a home match against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. Three days later, Southampton comes to visit in competition.
