The Wildmooshalle in Gröbenzell now has a new name: 50 years after his third place at the Olympic Games in Munich, the hall in the leisure center has been named after judoka Paul Barth. The municipality honored its only winner of an Olympic bronze medal with a ceremonial unveiling of the nameplate, which has been hanging legibly above the main entrance of the building since Thursday evening, as well as a ceremony in the town hall with around a hundred invited guests. Barth has lived in Gröbenzell since 1973 and founded the very successful judo department there under the umbrella of the 1. SC Gröbenzell in the same year. The naming of the hall had been requested by the SPD parliamentary group. It was celebrated with a reception attended by the namesake, Mayor Martin Schäfer and former Mayor Eike Götz, as well as friends of Barth’s from the judo sport.
