From basketball to Roland-Garros, Issy handball players for a good cause… Your sports weekend in Île-de-France

Continuing on from the start of the season, Le Parisien offers a selection of issues and events not to be missed in Île-de-France before each weekend. Overview.

The poster for the weekend: Paris welcomes Monaco to Roland-Garros

BASKET. After having already received Monaco in March at the Accor Arena, Paris Basket offers itself a new luxury setting. This Saturday, the club from the capital (15th) welcomes the same opponent to Roland-Garros at Porte d’Auteuil, in the 16th arrondissement.

“We have accomplished many “firsts” in our young history, but the opportunity to play a match under the roof of Philippe-Chatrier will perhaps be our greatest pride, explained David Kahn, president of Paris Basketball, in June. The Roland-Garros stadium is the flagship of Parisian, French and international sport. We will work tirelessly to organize a match and a show that lives up to its reputation. »

The doors will open from 11 a.m., with catering on the forecourt of the Philippe-Chatrier court (food trucks), entertainment for children (basketball initiation, stunball, double dutch, basketball board games, etc.). The roof will be closed. On the sporting level, the task promises to be complicated for the Parisians. Monaco, runner-up to Blois in the standings (with one game less), also shines in the Euroleague.

In basketball configuration, the enclosure on the Philippe-Chatrier court will be able to accommodate between 8,000 and 12,000 spectators. Finally, note that Roland Garros has already hosted a basketball match: the final of the French Championship… in 1947.

The match not to be missed: the Lionesses of Paris 92 for a good cause

HANDBALL. The news is only female, the French men’s team playing this weekend two matches for the qualifications for Euro 2024. After the international break, the Lionesses of Paris 92 (3rd) are back this Friday, against Toulon (13th) at the Palais des Sports in Issy-les-Moulineaux on the occasion of a Pink October evening in collaboration with the Hauts de Seine Cancer League, for the second consecutive year.

Several activities are on the program: communication and cancer prevention stand, sale of macaroons and roses for the benefit of the League against Cancer, sale of new t-shirts and jerseys worn by the players, and several surprises. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the Cancer League. In the field, it will be without Méline Nocandy. Seriously injured in the knee, the half-center of Paris 92 will also miss the next Euro (November 3 to 20) with the France team.

To immerse yourself in history: the Trail of the Soldier of the Marne

COURSE A PIED. This is a race unlike any other. It concerns a moment in history that hit the whole eastern region hard: the First World War, less than a month before the commemoration of the November 11 armistice. Since 2017, this event, which replaced the Meaux half-marathon, which was too restrictive to organize in the city, allows both to exercise in the heart of nature, while being immersed in a setting steeped in history, between the places of battle and military, allied or even German cemeteries.

Several events are offered, with Sunday 16, 4 races of 5, 11, 20 and 30km and a 10km walk. Five towns (Barcy, Chambry, Crégy les Meaux, Meaux and Varreddes) who have known the fights will be crossed by the competitors. The departures will be, depending on the distances, from the Monument Notre Dame de la Marne de Barcy or from the Park of the Museum of the Great War. On Saturday, 14 children’s races are organized at the Georges Tauziet sports complex.

The Tiby to discover the future players of the France team

HANDBALL. The TIBY Handball, a benchmark international U19 handball tournament, takes place from this Friday until Sunday, at the Val d’Oise High Performance Sports Center (CDFAS) in Eaubonne, the future home of Team USA for Paris 2024. Installed in the international calendar, the tournament celebrates its 19th edition, welcoming the 2004-2005 generation which will renew our France A team for the next Olympic campaigns. Organized by the Val d’Oise Handball Committee with the support of the Val d’Oise Department Oise and the FFHandball, the TIBY 2022 welcomes 4 strong nations of world handball: France, Hungary, Croatia and Portugal.

Led by the duo Pascal Person – Patrice Annonay, the Minots, nickname given to the generation of French male U19s, will be keen to redeem themselves after a failed Euro (14th). Revanchists, the Bleuets are determined to revive and keep their trophy, acquired last edition.

Camille Lacourt and Tatiana Silva dive to take up the Water Challenge

SWIMMING. For the 15th consecutive year, UNICEF France and the French Swimming Federation (FFN) are joining forces as part of the Water Challenge, in order to raise public awareness of the importance of access to drinking water. , and to collect funds to contribute to the financing of UNICEF’s programs for access to drinking water.

On this occasion, the partner swimming pools in France and the region (Argenteuil, Vanves, Villejuif, Drancy, Neptune Club de France in the 15 arrondissement) are mobilizing to host this solidarity event which follows the Nuit de l’Eau. Games, challenges and activities of all kinds will be organized there in order to make as many people as possible aware of the issue of access for all to safe water and to collect as many donations as possible to help the children of Madagascar.

This Saturday, Tatiana Silva, UNICEF France ambassador since 2018, and five-time world champion, Camille Lacourt, will go to the Vanves swimming pool to meet a hundred children to participate in several activities around the water in order to collect as many donations as possible.
