Judoka Igor Wandtke Qualifies for Olympics Despite Missing Medal at World Championships

Judoka Igor Wandtke (Hannover) managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi, even without a possible medal. After his victory in the class up to 73 kg and fifth place in the final, the 33-year-old former champion can travel to the summer games on the team ticket, according to the German Judo Federation (DJB).

Wandtke missed a podium finish in his seventh World Cup participation due to defeats in the semifinals against Mongolian Erdenbayar Batzaya and in the fight for bronze against Swiss defending champion Nils Stump. On the way to the semi-finals, the Lübeck native celebrated one of his four victories against the Uzbek Murodjon Juldoschew, who came third in the World Cup.
