Franca, São Paulo and Minas meet opponents at BCL Americas 2022-23

The draw for the fourth season of the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCL Americas) took place this Friday in the city of Miami, United States and the Brazilian teams of the tournament, São Paulo, Franca and Minas already know their opponents in the first phase of the match. .

The event began with a speech by Horacio Muratore, Honorary President of FIBA ​​​​​​and Chairman of the Board of BCL Americas.

“On behalf of all members of the Board of Directors, it is an honor for all of us to welcome you to this new edition of our competition. This fourth season has required the support, work and efforts of many stakeholders and I would therefore like to thank the National Federations, National Leagues, Clubs, their managers, players, coaches, referees and all the tournament staff, led by our Executive Director, Carlos Alves.

I would also like to acknowledge the international support for this FIBA ​​program, President Hamane Niang; our General Secretary Andreas Zagklis; our FIBA ​​Chief Executive and Basketball Champions League Europe President, Markus Studer; and Carol Callan, President of FIBA ​​Americas.

“At FIBA, we want to continue to develop our most important club competition in America, always trying to widen the participation of countries and teams”said the bricklayer.

Carlos Alves, Executive Director of the FIBA ​​​​Americas Regional Office, introduced the draw, which was streamed live on the official YouTube channel.

As for the ceremony, A group has already been awarded for geographical and logistical reasons and will include Real Estelí (Nicaragua), Honey Badgers (Canada) and Libertadores de Querétaro (Mexico). The draw determined the participants of groups B, C and D.

The process determined that teams from the same country could not be in the same group. Teams were placed on four different lottery reels. The first had as seeds the champions of each of the local leagues: Instituto (Argentina), Franca (Brazil) and Biguá (Uruguay).

The second had the two remaining Brazilian teams, Flamengo and Minas. The third had the other two Argentinian clubs, Obras and Quimsa, while the fourth had the last two teams, Peñarol (Uruguay) and Universidad de Concepción (Chile).
