It is already a coincidence that in Girona’s return to the Primera División, the match against Real Madrid has fallen again for Fires, as in the club’s debut in the highest category of Spanish football in the 2017-18 season. This time, however, there is a difference to take into account because the duel will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu and not at Montilivi as happened last October 29, 2017. That was a day for white-and- red with a memorable victory that is still remembered five years later (2-1).
Girona, then managed by Pablo Machín, showed the whole world that it was capable of beating the European champions and that, therefore, it had to be taken into account. After an early goal from Isco, Stuani and Portu turned the score around in the second half in a great game from Girona. Montilivi went crazy and celebrated the feast of Sant Narcís in the best way.
Tomorrow will not be Sant Narcís nor will the match be in Montilivi, but Míchel’s Girona wants to continue working with the idea that the coach always insists on being able to “compete against any rival”. The city will still be in full celebration of the Fairs and dreams of repeating a feat it already knows how to achieve. The 2018-19 season was won at the Bernabéu (1-2).
