Thanks to a 0-1 success against Dynamo kyiv, thanks to an achievement by Christopher Wooh, Rennes validated its presence – at least – in the round of 16 of this Europa League.
It was a completely reinvigorated Rennes team who found Dynamo kyiv this Thursday evening, on behalf of the 4th day of the Europa League. After a delay in ignition this season, the formation of Bruno Genesio had found its cruising speed in recent weeks, both at the level of Ligue 1 and on the European scene. A level of form materialized by a week with two consecutive victories, against Dynamo (2-1) then against Nantes in the derby (3-0).
Mention well for the Rennais
The Red and Blacks were therefore determined to make the pass of two against this seasoned Ukrainian team in the European Cup. The stakes were clear: in the event of a victory, the Rennais could directly project themselves into their European spring in the competition if at the same time Fenerbahçe won against AEK Larnaca. And they accomplished their mission, with a new consistent performance, with great application.
In a pleasant and quite unbridled match, the Rennais multiplied the waves on the goal of the locals. The young Doué (5th) or even Bourigeaud (6th, 15th) could have unblocked the situation quickly. But we had to wait for the return of the locker room and a victorious recovery from Wooh to see Rennes take the lead (0-1, 48th). A goal that was enough for the happiness of the Breton club. Despite some turbulence which allowed Steve Mandanda to shine, the Rennais kept this precious advantage until the final whistle. It allows them direct access – at least – to the knockout stages of this Europa League.
