Djokovic is far from being able to play the Australian Open

The controversy over whether Novak Djokovic will be able to play the next Open the Australia seems to be far from over. Let us remember that although it is no longer necessary to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter the oceanic country, Nole has a three-year sanction without entering the country when he was deported last January. The Serbian needs a permit from the new Australian Government and at the moment it is not known if he will obtain it, although he considers himself optimistic about it. Craig Tiley, director of the tournament and who until now had pressed for Nole to be next year, has commented in a statement collected by Tennis Head. “It is a matter that we are not going to enter. Everything is between the Federal Government and Novak, if he finally gets permission we will welcome him to the Australian Open 2023”. A surprising change of stance on Tiley’s part adopting the same behavior as the US Open.
