Quite a lot is said about the exclusivity, luxury, comfort and good organization of which most of the tournaments within the circuit of the ATP. Even before entering this select group, organizers need to demonstrate that they have the plans and resources to put on a good competition, from the hospitality, to the training pitches, to the game venues.

That reality that is usually seen in the highest category tennis tournaments was not present in the Tennis Napoli Cup, an ATP 250 categorized event within the circuit and that caused problems for more than one athlete, especially a Colombian who closed his experience with a bitter memory.

Nicholas Barrientos landed in the city of Naples with the aim of adding good points in the doubles world ranking together with his partner the Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes Varela. Both reached the tournament at once in the round of 16 and faced the Croatian Nikola Cacic and the pakistani Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.

The bad news for Barrientos not only came with the result of the match, where they were eliminated with partials of 7-5 and 6-2, ending their hopes of reaching the last rounds of the tournament, but also when they came to play their match, where he found something he never expected, much less in an official ATP competition.

When he arrived at his hotel after playing the match, Nicolás found all his belongings and those of his partner in the lobby of the building, some even lying on the floor. It turns out that while he was in the middle of the match, he had received an email informing him that a hotel change had been generated.

This is how the tennis player expressed it through his official Twitter account:

“This filled the cup! How can this happen in an ATP 250Not even in a Challenger had it happened to me. I get to the lobby after playing my game at 5 and find all my belongings and my wife’s in the lobby, badly packed, various things lying on the floor. I check my email and see an email that arrived at 4 while I was playing, notifying me that I had to change hotels again. I had already changed once on the second day of my arrival”

Apart from this situation, Barrientos also exposed the poor conditions of the fields where the tournament was going to be played, alleging that they had to play the doubles qualifying round in a enclosure away from the official club of the tournament:

“I think I don’t even need to mention the fact that the courts that everyone knows, and that the qualy and first round of doubles were played at a club 40 minutes from the official club”.

To finish, the Colombian asked the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) to be more rigorous when choosing the companies that carry out the tournaments, since this would have presented more inconveniences with other competitions:

“The tournament has very few cars and you can imagine how difficult it is to go from one place to another. I think there are incidents in tournaments that are solved along the way, but none of this is accidentalthe poor organization of this tournament has made it impossible to deal with every problem that comes up every day”.
