Colombia ends day with women’s basketball gold Asunción

ASSUMPTION.- The Colombian women’s basketball team beat Paraguay 79-62 to win the gold medal against an Arena SND at full capacity, silencing the local fans, during the ninth day of the XII South American Games, held in the city of Paraguay.

Colombia won the competition undefeated in four games, defining the championship in the Sports Fairs according to the Technical Manual of the Games, which contemplated a single round of All against All. Paraguay keeps the silver medal by winning three games with one loss, and the bronze goes to Uruguay, by winning two matches with two setbacks.

With this medal, the coffee delegation increases the total gold medals to 41, with 50 silver and 54 bronze medals, for a total of 145.

Edghill and Britton lead Table Tennis squad for Guyana
The mixed doubles couple, Chelsea Edghill and Shemar Britton, managed to advance to the next phase, after obtaining different positive results during the first day of Table Tennis at the XII South American Games 2022.

Edghill and Britton, from Guyana, easily defeated the Bolivians Andrea Choqueticlla and Diego Ávila 11-6, 11-5 and 11-7, in the Mixed Doubles, while Britton himself, teaming up with Christopher Franklin in the Men’s Doubles, surpassed 11 -5; 7-11; 11-2 and 11-7, to Fernando Fernández and José Lizarazu, also from Bolivia.
In the individual phase of “ping pong”, Chelsea won Valeria Zelada from Paraguay in four sets (11-6, 11-1, 11-5 and 11-5), while Natalie Cummings, an experienced 33-year-old player, did the own by 13-11; 11-2, 11-5 and 11-6, against María Fernanda Maldonado from Peru. Sherman Britton also won his match four sets to nil (11-8, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-9) against David León of Paraguay.

It should be noted that the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles from Venezuela, as well as the Venezuelans, Camila Obando and Roxy González, and the Colombians Cory Tellez Mejía and Marta Casas, sealed victories in singles.

Aruba entrenched in Bowling
The sisters Abigail and Kamilah Dammers, managed to place themselves in the second position of the Women’s Doubles, on the first bowling date in Asunción 2022, by totaling 2471 points.

Venezuela and Colombia finished first and third, respectively, in this type of bowling, in the qualifying rounds of this sport at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción.

The men’s double, Venezuela, Colombia and Panama, covered the first three positions in that order, of the bowling eliminatory that takes place in the Strike Bowling of Asunción.

Colombia added another five medals on the ninth day of the XII South American Games in Asunción, three of them silver, in the disciplines of artistic swimming, in the free and technical routine of women’s teams, as well as in water skiing, in the overall modalities female with Daniela Verswyel García and in male wakeboard with Jorge Rocha. The fourth Colombian medal was a bronze, in women’s rugby, also in women’s boxing, with María José Martínez in the 54 kg division.

Venezuela on his side, added two new metals, both bronze in women’s boxing, with Krisandy Ríos in 60 kg, and Maryelis Yriza in 75 kilos.

The tenth day will be the day with the fewest gold medals in dispute with 11, highlighting sports shooting with 5 medals in competition.
