Wolfsburg professionals without a mask on the train

Train trouble at VfL Wolfsburg!

Coach Niko Kovac’s (51) team traveled to Cologne on Friday for the away game in Leverkusen (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) by ICE (the train arrived 50 minutes late). However, some VfL players did not take the mask requirement very seriously.

As the “Sportschau” reports, the majority of professionals did not wear a mandatory FFP2 mask. A WDR reporter who happened to be traveling with him made a video showing the players dozing without a mask, talking or playing on their cell phones.

Some dangled their masks by their ears, others under their chins. However, mouth and nose protection may only be removed for eating and drinking.

Several hints from the train attendant went unheeded. And according to an eyewitness report, a train attendant was even laughed at by several players.

Central defender Micky van de Ven (21) briefly put the mask on his head like a hat. Paulo Otávio (27) is said to have laughingly given the neighbor and goalkeeper Pavao Pervan (34) after his fourth warning by the train attendant (“I’m getting embarrassed to say it…”) that he had to be more careful and only wear the mask touch down a few seconds before a railway employee would come by.

A train attendant told WDR: “I don’t find the behavior of the players respectful.”

In the meantime, the club has responded to a request from WDR and apologized for the behavior of the professional team. Most recently, Wolfsburg Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke (58) said that they would pay more attention to Corona and wearing the mask in the team bus.

At least not everyone at VfL Wolfsburg seems to take that seriously…
