Baseball: Shohei Ohtani takes hitting streak to 15 games in win over Rangers

Shohei Ohtani extended his hitting streak to 15 games, an MLB record, with a 2-for-4 outing for the Los Angeles Angels, who beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 on Friday.

In the aftermath of a no-hitter until the eighth inning and a 15th victory on the mound, the two-way star preserved his streak at the plate with a right single in the first inning on a hit. Glenn Otto (6-10).

Ohtani flirted with his 35th home run late in the third inning at Angel Stadium, flying to the warning lane at center field. He recorded his second hit of the game with a ground single in the seventh game.

Southpaw Reid Detmers (7-6) picked up the win after knocking out nine players in six innings of four hits and a single run.

Jo Adell put the Halos on the board with his solo home run in the second and Luis Rengifo made it 2-0 with his 17th home run in the third.

Adolis Garcia’s double RBI cut the lead to 2-1 in game four, before Taylor Ward restored the lead to two points with his double RBI in game five. The Angels added a point on a successful push in the eighth, Matt Duffy scoring on a sacrifice kick from Livan Soto.
