ATP Astana: Novak Djokovic benefits from Medvedev’s task in the semifinals and meets Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final

The Greek beat Andrey Rublev 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first semi-final. After the match, Tsitsipas said: “I played variably and towards the end it worked for me. I completely stuck to my game. There were a few things I worked on.”

“I continued to follow those shots with a lot of passion and determination. It wasn’t easy to lose a set. It was an extremely physical fight with a very good opponent on the other side of the net,” added the 24-year-old.

“I’m a bit shocked about this end,” said Djokovic after his sixth win against Medvedev.

“He looked very fit the whole time, he only moved more slowly in the last seven or eight points. He would never give up if he could somehow continue,” said the Serb.

Tsitsipas could win his third tournament of the season in Kazakhstan. The 24-year-old has already won the titles at the ATP Masters in Monte Carlo and on Mallorca this year. For Djokovic it would even be title number four. The Serb won the tournaments in Rome, Wimbledon and just last week in Tel Aviv.
