A comeback for the judo club

After more than two years of absence from competition at the provincial level because of the pandemic, the Club de Judo La Pocatière resumed its activities in competition by participating in the Daniel-Hardy Development Cup which was held on October 22 and 23 in Quebec, and which attracted nearly 800 judokas. The La Pocatière club was represented by six athletes, and four returned with a medal around their necks.

In the U-12 category, Jules Dufresne of Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies won all of his gold medal bouts. This was his first experience at this interprovincial level. The second gold medal was won by Omar Mazouzi from La Pocatière, in the U-18 category under 73 kg yellow and orange belt; he won all his fights.

Two other medals, this time bronze, were won by Oscar Dufresne of Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies in the U-14 under 50 kg, and Étienne Martel of La Pocatière in the U-16 under 50 kg. Jeanne Latacteur of Saint-Pacôme, in the U-14 under 48 kg category, won one bout but lost the next two, which deprived her of a medal, and Mégan Lévesque, also of Saint-Pacôme and in the U-21 category, suffered the same fate.

Thus, the 2022-23 season should proceed normally, and the Club de Judo La Pocatière intends to follow the competition calendar. A next development competition is scheduled for the beginning of December in Repentigny and two others in 2023 in Montreal and Saguenay, as well as the provincial championship at the end of March in Laval.

As for the 2022-23 season at Club de Judo La Pocatière, there is an increase in registrations compared to the last two years, affected by the pandemic. Currently, the club has more than sixty judokas, including three groups as part of the Judo-school program and a group in the evening. The club will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at the dojo, for members and non-members.
