Why the Wollongong world champion has to give up his rainbow jersey in August | World Cycling Championships

On Sunday, August 14, Fabio Jakobsen raced to the European title in Munich. The Dutchman will not open a vacancy for his European jersey until September 2023.

The European Championship will not be organized in August as usual in 2023, but will deviate from September 20 to 24.

Drenthe, with the VAM mountain as its attraction, organizes the European championships.

Jakobsen therefore receives a subscription of 13 months instead of 12 months. His colleague who wins the World Cup at the end of this month cannot benefit from such a promotion – 12 + 1 free.

On the contrary, the future world champion must already submit his renewal application from August 3 to 13.

The UCI will be naming the “Super World Cup” in Glasgow in 2023, with the world championships in all important disciplines – road, MTB, BMX, track – being organized in those ten days.

The program has yet to be released, but next year at the beginning of August it will be all about the rainbow, the stars will shift to September.

That calendar change will also have a significant impact on the World Cup preparation. The Tour ends on July 23, making it one of the last springboards towards the Scottish World Cup.

The Vuelta may well receive the brand new world champion.
