When Badajoz basketball was ‘invincible’

‘Invincible under the hoop’ is the name of the documentary that recalls Badajoz basketball in the 1970s, in which both the men’s and women’s teams from the city competed alongside renowned national clubs.

The one-hour documentary, based on the book ‘History of 50 years of amateur basketball in Badajoz’ by the CB Foundation, highlights the ‘milestone’ reached at the time, in which the men’s team played in the second division and the feminine the first category.

By way of interviews, the chronological history is recalled with experiences and anecdotes, taking into account significant places in the history of basketball such as Menacho’s Memory, the CEPANSA warehouse, the terrace of the López de Ayala Theater or the track of the Colegio Juventud, which packed his stands with the fans.

Some of its protagonists such as Juan Cuevas, Toni Béjar, Pepe Ramos, Gonzalo Robles, José Clavero, Concha Barrientos, Antonio Barrena or Loly Márquez, among others, have gathered this Thursday for the presentation of the documentary in the Assembly Hall of the RUCAB.

«What was achieved was epic, trying face to face with teams from all over the Spanish geography. When we wrote the book we did it with the desire that it not be forgotten », indicated Juan Cuevas before the viewing.
