The Yukio Hatoyama Cabinet is inaugurated, the first change of government in 16 years.
2009 (Heisei 21)Yukio Hatoyama, leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, is elected as the 93rd Prime Minister, forming a three-party coalition cabinet consisting of the Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party, and the People’s New Party. It is the first non-LDP coalition government in 15 years since the 1994 Tsutomu Haneda Cabinet.
