Soren Waerenskjold was crowned the new world champion time trial among the promises on Monday. For Alec Segaert, who gave Belgium a second World Cup medal after Remco Evenepoel’s bronze in the time trial for professionals. And coincidence: Evenepoel knows the new Norwegian rainbow jersey wearer.

Waerenskjold, now 22, who is already a professional at Uno-X, won the time trial in the Trophée Center Morbihan four years ago. That French stage race over three stages was won with great force majeure by Remco Evenepoel, but in a race against the clock of 7 kilometers our compatriot had to recognize his superior in the Norwegian.
Waerenskjold was 67 hundredths faster than the recent winner of the Vuelta at the time.

Evenepoel had then left as leader after winning stage one with a 3:26 lead. Waerenskjold finished sixteenth in that stage and third in the final standings, after finishing second in the final stage behind Carlos Rodriguez. You know, the Spanish champion of INEOS who finished seventh in the last Vuelta.
