Viroleña wins silver medal in Olympics

Andrea Carolina Manzanares Zanco, 18, a student at the La Paz Psychopedagogical Center in Zacatecoluca, La Paz, and a scholarship holder of the Talented Young People Program (PJT) of the University of El Salvador (UES), won a silver medal in the XI Ibero-American Biology Olympiad (OIB) based in Peru, held virtually from September 5 to 9.

“There were five theoretical exams, I left quite nervous, but I always hoped for the best, I had enough faith in my knowledge, it wasn’t easy but I achieved my goal,” she said.

Manzanares commented that her dream of becoming an Olympic medalist in biology began in 2015 and that she currently has four silver medals, two bronze medals, a high honorable mention and a gold medal in different competitions. “I want to develop a career in the biological area and I am looking for a scholarship in an international institution,” she added.

Meanwhile, Luis Ramírez, director of the Psychopedagogical Center, assured that “effort and discipline guarantee meaningful results for personal growth.”
