VIDEO AND AUDIO ⟩ “You’re a hockey player. What are you doing here?” Roberts Yekimov on stereotypes, working behind the bar counter and behind the wheel of a taxi

“Anatomy of Hockey with Jakub Rödlich” returns to you after a week-long hiatus based on a wonderful event.

Last week, Jäkab and his wife Ieva welcomed their third child, Karla. The TVNET team congratulates the Rödlich family on a wonderful event!

After a short rest, the broadcast returns to listeners and viewers with a guest from the studio – this time hockey forward, future physiotherapist and children’s coach at “Kurbada” school Roberts Yekimov.

Robert started his hockey career at the age of six, begging his dad to take him to his first practice. The boy’s father used to play hockey himself, but in the end chose a career in music. Igor Yekimov played drums behind Laima Vaikule’s back for many years.

After his junior years, Roberts chose an unconventional path, because he did not agree to the tempting offer of Riga “Dinamo” at that time. Yekimov believed that at the age of 20 it is necessary to play, not to sit on the surface of the bench, so he went to the second league of Finland for strength.

In the conversation, Roberts also reveals that after his professional career in Europe, he worked as both a taxi driver and a bartender. He likes to stand behind the counter, so in the summer he gladly takes the opportunity to treat bar visitors with drinks. He admits that people often do not understand this, because they believe that all hockey players have earned for themselves the rest of their lives.

In the conversation with Roberta, we also talked about raising young hockey players, playing with number 91, and we couldn’t do without the legendary column “Fast Five”.
