The 1st Latvian floorball league is divided into Western and Eastern zones – ten teams compete in the first game, and nine teams compete in the second.
“Lēžions/Grobiņas SC” played its first match in Priekule, competing with FK “Ozolnieki/JN”.
Although the home team attacked more productively (42:33), they managed to start the season with only one point for a loss in the postgame shooting series. Our team never took the lead and conceded 3:4 (0:1, 2:2, 1:0, 0:0, 0:1).
The floorball players of Ozolnieki achieved 2:0 until the 26th minute, but by realizing two majorities, the home team achieved a balance.
Rudolfs Valdmanis and Valters Freijs stood out from our team with accurate shots.
The second period ended on a low note, as the hosts put the ball into their goal. In the 51st minute, the Grobots had a good chance to tie the game, but Ingar Jansson’s free kick missed the goal.
The home team got a lifeline in the penultimate minute of the match, when Madars Plepis made it 3-3. No goals were scored in extra time, but the only one bulls Artis Upītis scored for the guests.
Jāni Zukuli was recognized as the best host in the ranks. The next match “Lēžions/Grobiņas SC” will be played away on September 25 with “RTU/Rockets 1”.
It is unusual to see Liepāja “Kuršu” among the teams of the 1st league, but this is the reality of this season. The long-time member of the Premier League played the first match in an unusual company away from “Talsa NSS/Zerorisk” and lost 2:3 (2:0, 0:3, 0:0).
Also in this match, our team made more shots (22:14) and took the lead, but we had to start the season without scoring.
Toms Peniķis and Dainis Mašnikovs scored goals for Liepāja in the first period, but in the continuation the opponent’s goal was closed and the cheers of joy disappeared.
The home team scored three goals in 13 minutes in the second period, which secured them the victory. At the end of the match, coach Mārtiņš Krūms requested a 30-second time-out, and also replaced the goalkeeper with a sixth field player, but the result did not change.
Daini Mašnikova was recognized as the most valuable player in the ranks of “Kuršu FSS”.
The Liepāja team will play their next game on September 23 at home against the University of Latvia.
