The finals of the Buenos Aires Games begin in Mar del Plata

The opening ceremony will be attended by the governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof; the Minister of Community Development, Andrés Larroque; the president of the Cultural Institute, Florencia Saintout; the Undersecretary of Sports, Javier Lovera, and the Undersecretary of Sociocultural Promotion, Lorena Risk, and will be held tomorrow from Las Toscas spa.

Starting at 2:00 p.m., the delegations, among which will be that of our city, will begin to enjoy the opening ceremony, which will have shows with guest artists and will also include an act of recognition for former Malvinas combatant athletes on the 40th anniversary of the war conflict.

This 2022 edition of the Buenos Aires Games began last April and had the highest number of entries in the last 10 years, with 350,000 participants from the 135 Buenos Aires districts that competed in the first stage, at the municipal level.

Meanwhile, later, in August and September, the regional stage was held, which gave the classification to 30,000 finalists from all over the province, who will be present in Mar del Plata from tomorrow until October 6.

During the days of competition, 116 sports and cultural disciplines will be developed, which will be distributed in 89 sports venues and will be divided into Youth categories, University and Tertiary Students, People with Disabilities, Older Adults and Transplanted People.

60% of the sports disciplines of the Buenos Aires Games are part of the program of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Throughout history, more than 20 million people have passed through this social, sports and cultural program, and among the most outstanding sporting events are the athletics days and swimming competitions; volleyball, handball, basketball, soccer, table tennis, motor racing; beach soccer, beach volleyball and beach handball.

The finals of these Buenos Aires Games also represent the return of full attendance after the successful 2021 edition that managed to bring together 10,000 young people in Mar del Plata. This year, all the categories will come together in the seaside resort until Thursday the 6th.

As novelties, the final of the Malvinas Heroines Cup stands out, which will take place at the José María Minella Stadium, and the first 10-kilometer marathon called “Bonaerenses en Carrera”, and the particularity of the return of the “School Modality”.

Within the framework of the cultural disciplines there will be tests of freestyle rap, cumbia, rock; folk dance, tango, malambo; Buenos Aires chefs and theater. Another important event will be the Narratón, in the PCD Oral Narration category, a show with the participants and guest narrators.

It is important to note that, in this edition of the competition, a new category was incorporated: Transplanted Persons.

The inclusion of this sector of the population not only promotes the practice of sports among people who have overcome a critical transplant situation, but also raises awareness of the positive impact that sports have on their quality of life. At the same time, it raises awareness in the community about the importance of organ donation and what long transplant waiting lists mean.
