In the 1978-1979 season, the status was changed and it was decided to play the play-off matches for the teams that finished the league in the top five places. The first champion of the play-off method was Efes Pilsen, as it was known at that time.
Last season, Fenerbahçe became the champion by beating Efes 3-1 in the final series. Thus, the yellow-dark blue team reached its 10th victory in its history. The team with the most championships in the Basketball Super League is Efes. The navy-whites have a total of 15 championships. Fenerbahce follows Efes with 10 championships, while Eczacıbaşı, who is not in the league at the moment, has 8 championships.

Aydan Siyavuş became the champion the most as head coach
The Head Coach with the most championships in the Basketball Super League is Aydan Siyavuş. Aydan Siyavuş, one of the important names of Turkish basketball, became the champion 6 times in Eczacıbaşı and once in Efes Pilsen, a total of 7 times. Aydın Örs follows Siyavuş in second place. Örs won 5 of 6 championships with Anadolu Efes and 1 of them with Fenerbahçe. Efes Head Coach Ergin Ataman has 5 championships, Fenerbahçe’s former coach Zeljko Obradovic, Oktay Mahmuti and Mehmet Baturalp have 4 championships.
Manisa Metropolitan Belediyespor and Konyaspor Basketball became the new teams of the league this season. In the 2022-2023 season, there will also be 7 teams from Istanbul, 2 teams from İzmir, 2 teams from Bursa, and 1 team each from Ankara, Gaziantep, Denizli, Manisa and Konya.
