The day after its victory against Japan, the France team closed with a defeat (68-62) its group stage of the World Cup against Serbia, Tuesday, September 27, at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. The French, who were one point ahead of their opponent of the day in Group B, were already guaranteed to play in the quarter-finals of the competition.
If they had beaten Serbia, Jean-Aimé Toupane’s players were guaranteed to occupy a place in the top 2 of their group, which would have allowed them to avoid the Americans, defending champions, in the quarter-finals. With this setback, they place themselves in a bad situation, and no longer have their destiny in their hands.
