The coach returns to lead the Libertadores with whom he managed to reach the zone semifinals for the first time in their history last tournament.

Prior to the start of the 2022 season, the announcement of Quintero’s departure was made when he was summoned as head coach of the Mexican Basketball Team, although he remained as a sports advisor with the Queretaro team. His position was occupied by Miguel Volcán, who did a great job this first part of the season taking the Libertadores to the first places; Unfortunately for health reasons, Volcán left the position a few days before the playoffs.

Omar Quintero was ratified as coach of Libertadores after he experienced a great step in the qualifier for the 2023 FIBA World Championship and the Americup, where he had important and historic results for the tricolor quintet; on the one hand, the victory against Brazil by a score of 72 to 82, as well as the victory against the United States by 73 to 67.

The Queretaro team has shown great regularity throughout the tournament, being one of the strongest teams of the campaign; In addition, they obtained an important victory in their last series against Dorados de Chihuahua, showing their offensive power with players like Diego Willis, Vander Blue and Bo Spencer, placing the Queretanos in fourth place overall. The coach from Sonora arrives at a crucial moment for the team, since it was he who led Queretaro to their first playoffs in history last season, by staying one step away from the zone final.

The expectations in the team increase after the previous results in which the Sonoran coach was in charge of the team. The next thing for Libertadores is to visit the Zacatecas miners next September 20 and 21 and secure a place in the LNBP finals.
