Davis Cup > Roddick: “Difficult to consider Canada as legitimate”

Heavily beaten by the Netherlands (0−4) in the play-offs for the 2022 Davis Cup, Canada was finally invited and therefore saved by the organization after the exclusion of Russia.

Finally, Felix Auger-Aliassime and his team qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing second in pool B.

Andy Roddick gave a little rant about it. For him, a team or a player cannot lose but still advance in a competition, except as a lucky loser.

“Canada received a wild card for this round after losing to qualify for this stage… Difficult to consider them legit if they win the competition (…) We do not receive a wild card in a tournament where they have already lost. People are not used to getting a wild card for the third round of an event where they have already lost in the first round”dropped the American on twitter.

Canada will face Germany next November for a place in the last four of the Davis Cup.
