presentation of the finals, programme, TV broadcast, schedule

The US Open comes to an end this weekend. Two weeks of madness, surprises, but above all excellent tennis. Tiafoe’s dream, the Alcaraz fight, Garcia’s rise, Jabeur’s confirmation, Nadal’s fall, so many things that happened in New York. Two very open matches will put an end to the last Grand Slam of the 2022 season. Let’s go for their presentation.

Swiatek – Jabeur, the world elite

Among the ladies, the final pits Iga Swiatek, world No. 1 against Ons Jabeur, guaranteed to be world No. 2 on Monday. The WTA circuit finally offers us a Grand Slam final with its two best players on paper and on the pitch. The French public would have liked to see Caroline Garcia instead of the Tunisian, but fate decided otherwise. The confrontation between Swiatek and Jabeur promises to be virulent and intense. The Pole is playing her first major final elsewhere than at Roland Garros, while the seeded n°5 reaches her second Grand Slam final of her career after that of Wimbledon lost in July. A confrontation that will therefore offer a wonderful smile to one and deep sadness to the other. In addition, if Jabeur wishes to make Africa shine even more as the world No. 1, it is better if you take it now. Indeed, the winner of Roland Garros 2022 has more than 4,500 points in advance thanks to her exceptional start to the season. The 2000 points provided by this US Open are therefore essential for the Tunisian if she wishes to reach the throne as soon as possible.

A totally open men’s final

For men, the final is not yet known. Khachanov and Ruud make up the first semi-final, while Alcaraz and Tiafoe make up the second. Several things are at stake. First, a first Grand Slam title for one of these four formidable players. Many scenarios are possible. The success story of Frances Tiafoe who goes to the end of her American Dream. The advent of Carlos Alcaraz at only 19 years old. The consecration for Casper Ruud for a very regular and not so ghostly player. The return of Karen Khachanov to the highest level. Then, the place of world number one. Indeed, the podium of the classification will change no matter what. It will consist of Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud. The order remains to be determined. If neither Ruud nor Alcaraz reach the final, the man with 22 Grand Slam titles regains the throne. If Alcaraz or Ruud reaches the final without the other in front, he will become world number 1. Finally, if the young Spaniard and the Norwegian end up in the last game, then the winner will decide the next ruler of tennis for the next few weeks.
