Pont-l’Evêque: after an international AirBadminton tournament, Noémie is aiming for the World Beach Games

In the coming months, you may not only hear about AirBadminton, but also about Noemie Lecavelier. At 20, the young girl from Pont-l’Evêque (Calvados) won two silver medals at the international air badminton tournamentsorganized in mid-September in the Netherlands by the Badminton World Federation.

A growing sport

AirBadminton, késako? ” It’s a growing sport, the first competition dates from a year ago. It’s about playing badminton outdoors, on the sand,” explains Noémie Lecavelier.

The girl got wind of the sport a few months ago, when she was contacted to participate in a first competition organized in Germany. “At first, I didn’t really know what to expect,” admits Noémie. We think of the return of the cliché of badminton on the beach, and in the end I was pleasantly surprised. »

14 years of classic bad behind her

If Noémie was called upon to star in this new discipline, it’s for her good results in badminton “classic”. At 20, she already has 14 years of “bad” behind her! “I started at the age of 6, my mother took my sister to the training sessions which I attended. I ended up registering,” recalls Noémie. Barely two or three years later, she was already entering the competition.

“And I haven’t stopped since! »

The player was dismissed in Lisieux until the Terminale: “it’s my training club, where I learned badminton on the fingertips”. Before joining the hope pole of Caen as soon as the section opened, “where I stayed from the second to the Terminal”. Now a BTS Management student in Rouen, she is training for the fourth year at the Val-de-Reuil academy, “which allows me to continue to mtrain at a high level “, she rejoices.

In badminton, Noémie appreciates the individual spirit. “When I win, or when I lose, I can only blame myself. I’ve loved it since I was little, I’m very attached to this sport, ”she says. The girl to hold on to: badminton is also a family story at the Lecaveliers. His father, Christophe, his big sister Audrey, and his little sister Clotilde, also practice it. “The whole family in fact, it also allows you to keep this family hobby! »

Mastering the nuances to evolve

Before participating in the international AirBadmiton tournament, Noémie Lecavelier trained on her side on lake beach of Pont-l’Eveque. “Physically, it’s not the same as the classic bad, you have to be patient as you play outside. You have to know how to move on the sand, take into account the steering wheel which moves with the wind…”, explains the player.

It’s been a few daysAirBadminton Urban Series in Utrecht, Noémie represented France alongside three Frenchmen and two Frenchwomen, against five other nations. Result: a silver medal in team and another in individual. “We didn’t know each other but we got on really well on the pitch, I think it played a lot,” rejoices the young girl.

Soon the beach Olympics?

The Pontépiscopienne will continue the badminton competitions, without forgetting the airbad. “I take a lot of pleasure in the field as I love discovering new things and it challenges me,” she confides. Noémie is now aiming les World Beach Games, “the Beach Olympics” organized in August 2023 in Bali. The selection conditions are not yet defined, but she is determined to be part of the adventure. “I know that I have the means to give everything on the field to prove my place! »
