Podcast “And now to the sport”: Germany at the basketball championship – Sport

At the end, the German national basketball team made it exciting, but then it was done, the first medal after 17 years. With the 82:69 (36:23) victory against Poland, the team around NBA professional Dennis Schröder has now completed the medal set after European Championship gold in 1993 and European Championship silver in 2005. “I think we’ve made German basketball a bit sexier again,” said Schröder afterwards, and promised: “I’ll stay here until I can’t walk anymore.”

The attention has been great – and the potential of the Germans has been shown. But how sustainable are the success and the interest? What chances does the team have at the 2023 World Cup in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines and at the 2024 Olympics in Paris? “Every successful national team has been together for a while and found an identity,” said coach Gordon Herbert. “We’re just getting started.”

What was that tournament and what remains of it? Presenter Anna Dreher talks about this in this episode of “And now to sports” with basketball expert Jonas Beckenkamp.
