The young talent shoots the ceiling of Girona

Quique Cárcel said in the balance of the signing market that this season, the one of the return to the First Division, it had been decided to build a structure almost opposite to the one made in the first adventure in the top category. Bringing contrasted footballers, with seniority and experience as was done at the time with Cristhian Stuani, Gorka Iraizoz, Carles Planas or Seydou Doumbia, to name a few examples, has ceased to be the priority in recent years. Especially, seeing that at home there is a mine to explode. Then it was Valery Fernández and Pedro Porro (transferred to Manchester City); then Arnau Martínez and Ramon Terrats; and now Óscar Ureña, Ricard Artero or Joel Roca, who are starting to show their heads.

The commitment to youth is increasingly clear. Apart from nurturing Míchel Sánchez’s team with players from the base, it has also been decided to incorporate talented footballers who are barely over twenty years old to raise the level of the squad. Yan Couto, Roro Riquelme, Reinier Jesus, Taty Castellanos, Toni Fuidias and Miguel Gutiérrez have landed in a group that also has the experience of Oriol Romeu or David López, among others. Conditioned by the salary margin, Girona has been able to acquire Fuidias and Miguel. The winger stood out in the last match against Betis, making Montoya suffer bravely on the left side and connecting, in addition, with the other side, where Arnau was. The goal was born from a play between the two of them.

After completing Miguel’s great internship, Arnau became Girona’s youngest goalscorer in the First Division (19 years, 4 months and 24 days) and, at the same time, the most premature this season in the League, surpassing Ansu fate The quality of the maresmenc does not go unnoticed and Luis de la Fuente included him in the call for the under-21 selection. With Spain, he will coincide with Riquelme, fixed in Míchel’s lineups, and if Miguel continues to progress at this rate it may be very likely that Girona will end up having three players in the under-21s. Another youngster who shines is Reinier. He scored against Valladolid and Sevilla came close to doing so on two occasions. On the other hand, Roca again had minutes at Villamarín and yesterday he also concentrated with the Spanish under-19 team. Míchel assessed very positively the call-ups of his players with the national team, further proof that the young talent is shooting through the roof of this Girona.
