Pierre Taki talks about grass baseball

Pierre Taki will broadcast on September 20, 2022J-WAVE『TOKYO M.A.A.D SPIN』I was talking with Kan Takagi about kusayakyu.

(Kan Takagi) I look forward to working with you again in the second week. So, the story of Takarajima High School and Stray Dog Academy… that’s basically what I understand. When we were talking last week, we weren’t at the same place, and there weren’t any festivals around the end of the 80’s. Fuji Rock began in the middle of the 90’s.

(Pierre Taki) That’s right. Was it like 97?

(Takagi Kan) That’s right. Isn’t it like 96?

(Pierre Taki) Right now, we pass each other a little at the festival. There are people like “Wow! How are you doing?” backstage. There were no festivals in the 80’s and 90’s. The feeling of meeting in one place…for example, not with people from other genres. Hip-hop is hip-hop and there are events. There was no such thing as people from other genres coming there.

(Takagi Kan) The very first DJ contest was a mess. There’s reggae, and there’s Soichi Terada from house music. There’s also Suchadara, and there’s also reggae… something like that. Only the DJ contest was a mess. But it was true that there was no festival. When I was a solo performer, I was doing a lot of live performances. I remember going around one time. But that’s about it. Because there were no big festivals.

(Pierre Taki) That’s why I feel that festivals play a pretty big role in terms of horizontal connections and exchanges between artists, rather than bands.

(Takagi Kan) It’s been about 20 years. 20 years, so almost. When we first started doing these kind of dance music-oriented shows, there weren’t any festivals like that yet. Come to think of it, yes.

(Pierre Taki) Yes. If you remember

(Takagi Kan) Right now, is there anyone in a band that you’re on good terms with?

(Pierre Taki) In the end, we were still at Stray Dog Academy (laughs).

(Takagi Kan) Is there anyone new to Stray Dog Academy?

(Pierre Taki) There are no new students at the Stray Dog Academy. Stray Dog Academy has a new school building, but there aren’t many people enrolling (laughs).

(Takagi Kan) Ah, is that so? Doesn’t it look like ANI goes there occasionally?

(Pierre Taki) Ah, ANI-kun will come to this side. (laughs)

Few people enter stray dog school

(Takagi Kan) When I was watching Yuareko on YouTube, I sometimes thought, “The way you eat rice is similar to ANI’s” (laughs). Probably because there are many opportunities to eat, even two people will become similar? Is there something like that? When we eat together and talk, the way we speak becomes somewhat similar. Your friends will share similar eating habits. Like eating pace.

(Pierre Taki) I think it’s the Showa style of eating (laughs).

(Takagi Kan) When I was eating, I thought, “Oh, you look like ANI” (laughs). I’m on good terms. With ANI.

(Pierre Taki) You’re on good terms with ANI, aren’t you? But have you ever tried to imitate how ANI eats? (smile).

(Takagi Kan) No, it’s not. It’s not that I’m trying to imitate them, but that there are some similarities in the atmosphere.

(Pierre Taki) Well, maybe so. ANI-kun is also loose. That guy too.

(Takagi Kan) That man has never properly spoken like this. Even more so, ANI is so aggressive… “Kan-chan”. Don’t come talk like crazy. When SHINCO gets drunk, he talks a lot.

(Pierre Taki) Yeah yeah. After all, Kan-chan is a senior.

(Takagi Kan) Ah, yes, yes.

(Pierre Taki) It’s like the hip-hop industry. There are also seniors and juniors there. Isn’t that also true?

(Takagi Kan) But the hip-hop of my time was through Tokyo Bravo and punk. From the perspective of Moro’s hip hop kids, it’s probably a position of “Who is that person?”

(Pierre Taki) Well, but I’m still a senior.

(Takagi Kan) You also have a baseball team with ANI, right?

(Pierre Taki) Yes. Pierre school.

(Takagi Kan) Baseball is… so this time, the new song “HOMEBASE”. That must be from a baseball movie.

(Pierre Taki) That’s right. There was a movie adaptation of a manga called “Bouquet for the Baseball Club”. The ending theme is “HOMEBASE”.

Denki Groove “HOMEBASE”

(Takagi Kan) He’s still playing baseball… I might have seen him once. At Setagaya Park.

(Pierre Taki) Really? (smile).

(Takagi Kan) “Huh? Maybe it’s Taki and the others?” I don’t remember if I walked the dog or something. But, if you do something really seriously, you won’t be able to talk to me (laughs).

(Pierre Taki) I wish I could give you one heck of a joke (laughs).

(Takagi Kan) No, I also thought that it might be so. did you do that? At Setagaya Park.

(Pierre Taki) I’m doing it at Setagaya Park, I’m doing it.

(Takagi Kan) Even now?

(Pierre Taki) I still do it. Recently, that’s why I’m aggravating grass baseball. Every time, I’m doing it from the morning with a familiar team. It’s the same team every time. It loses its seriousness, or rather, it becomes more like a gag. A few years ago, I started a grass baseball league called “Tokyo University League”. Six teams including our team, Pierre Gakuen, entered there. We are currently playing three league games a year (laughs).

(Takagi Kan) Eh? Where are you now? Pierre school.

Complicating grass baseball and launching a league

(Pierre Taki) Pierre Gakuen…is it about 6 years old this year? start the league. And now it’s second from the bottom. I won the first year. From there, other teams kept stealing the championship.

(Takagi Kan) Are the other teams also musicians?

(Pierre Taki) The team of Gota Nishidera from NONA REEVES.

(Takagi Kan) Ah, is he doing it too?

(Pierre Taki) There is also a team of Mr. MAGUMI from Repiche.

(Takagi Kan) Huh! Age is close.

(Pierre Taki) That’s why, everyone gather. It would be weird if I took it seriously once in a while. That’s why I’m doing it.
