The Philadelphia 76ers signed center Montrezl Harrell to a two-year, $5.2 million contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Sixers coach Doc Rivers coached Harrell at the Los Angeles Clippers, when he won Sixth Man of the Year in the 2019-20 season, averaging 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds off the bench. The Philadelphia team ranked 28th last season in points from substitute players, so this was a crucial aspect that the franchise’s leadership needed to strengthen.
Harrell spent last season between the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets, averaging 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 64.5% from the field in 71 games.
The 76ers have tried many backup center options in recent years to back up Joel Embiid. Dwight Howard, Andre Drummond and Deandre Jordan are some of the names that have passed through the organization in recent times.
De’Anthony Melton, PJ Tucker, Danuel House and now Montrezl Harrell are the main reinforcements that have arrived at the 76ers for the 2022-23 season, which they will arrive as one of the main candidates in the Eastern Conference. The team will once again be led by Joel Embiid, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris.
