Outliers in the 1/16th cup finals draw: Lierse-Anderlecht, Beveren-Antwerp and Westerlo-Genk | Croky Cup

16 of the 18 first division players were allowed a protected status in the draw, conducted by the injured Gent player Tarik Tissoudali and Stijn Van Bever of the Pro League.

PhD student Westerlo and Seraing (last year’s number 17) ended up in pot 2 together with the clubs from 1B (or the Challenger Pro League) and the amateur clubs. As a result, they were automatically linked to another first division team. In the case of Westerlo, this is Genk, Seraing will keep it in Wallonia with a duel against Charleroi.

Other notable posters are Lierse (leader in 1B) that hosts Anderlecht and Beveren that plays host to Antwerp, or Dieumerci Mbokani with his new club against his ex-club.

A few other top clubs were spared by Dame Fortuna: champion Club Brugge Patro Eisden, cup holder AA Gent Dessel Sport and vice champion Union Cappellen. These 3 amateur clubs are all allowed to play at home according to the rules.

The matches will be played on November 8, 9 and 10.
