Three touchdowns in the first two games of the season, six games in a row with points: The Amon-Ra St. Brown name is getting bigger and bigger in the NFL.
A touchdown in the NFL is now normal for Amon-Ra St. Brown. “I expect that from myself,” said the 22-year-old football professional of the German Press Agency after his Detroit Lions’ first win of the season. “I want to do more, I want more yards, more touchdowns. If I don’t get a touchdown, I’m pissed off.” St. Brown is already so good that he breaks NFL records – and has long been the number one pass recipient for the Lions.
The German-American had two touchdowns in his team’s 36:27 against the Washington Commanders on Sunday and now has eight in the past six games in the National Football League. The fact that he caught at least eight passes in addition to a touchdown in these six games is an NFL record – no Davante Adams, no Antonio Brown, no Randy Moss and no Odell Beckham Jr. “It doesn’t get any more stable. You you can count on him delivering every day,” said coach Dan Campbell.
In his 19 NFL games to date, St. Brown has not only earned the respect of his colleagues with his touchdowns, but also with the work he does to block the way for other players. “He’s a pit bull who plays receiver,” Campbell said.
Just under two years ago, St. Brown, whose older brother Equanimeous St. Brown plays for the Chicago Bears, was overlooked by all teams for three rounds of talent selection. Only the Lions used one of their picks in round four and brought it to Detroit. This still worries the ambitious athlete, he can list all the names of the passport recipients who were selected before him. “I like to be perfect in everything I do. When I make a mistake, I’m hard on myself,” St. Brown said at the press conference after his gala performance, catching nine passes for a total of 116 yards and another 68 yards , which he carried the ball across the field after a handover.
The polite son of a German and an American doesn’t lack self-confidence: “I don’t make many mistakes. When I make one, it irritates me. I promise you, I won’t make a mistake twice,” he told journalists in Detroit. At the moment he is doing above all: A lot right.
