Berlin – National basketball player Moritz Wagner is back in training at his NBA club Orlando Magic after being injured at the European Championships.

“I’m fine in the sense that my foot is better. I can do the sport I love to do again. I can walk without pain and train normally,” said the 25-year-old on the “GotNexxt” podcast. “It always takes longer than you think. But it’s going in the right direction.”

Wagner had to cancel the European Championships at home because of an ankle injury, but was still there in the preliminary round in Cologne as an accompanist for national coach Gordon Herbert’s team. Now Franz Wagner’s older brother is back in Florida. “Of course the heart bleeds too. It’s really cool, you’d love to be there. It was fun in Cologne, the boys are really special,” said Wagner. He even “flirted with the idea” of flying to Germany again for a possible final on Sunday.

The national team is in the semi-finals of the European Championship for the first time since 2005 and meets world champions Spain on Friday evening (8.30 p.m. / RTL and MagentaSport). “It’s also very difficult emotionally, I noticed that in Cologne. Of course you want to be there for the team, but you don’t want it to be about you,” said Wagner, whose end became public at the start of preparation in August. He is currently meditating a lot so as not to “freak out completely”.
