MLB: Summary of games in the American League, including the loss of the Orioles

Alex Verdugo came to the aid of the Toronto Blue Jays by harassing the Baltimore Orioles for a 3-1 loss on Wednesday.

This loss to the Boston Red Sox puts the Jays seven games ahead of the Orioles, who are trying to reach the playoffs in the American.

With an 80-75 record this season, the situation is complicated for Baltimore who are four games behind the Seattle Mariners and the last place among the teams drafted in the American.

Verdugo drove in with a single in the opening inning and matched teammate Abraham Almonte who homered when he himself sent the ball over the fence in the sixth inning.

Robinson Chirinos drove in the Orioles’ lone run with his fourth long pitch of the season in the eighth inning.

Rich Hill stood out on the mound for Boston with nine strikeouts and five hits allowed in six innings. He became the 21st pitcher in Major League history to make at least 25 starts in a season at age 42 or older. Bartolo Colon and RA Dickey, in 2017, were the last two pitchers to accomplish the feat.
