Maus dominates the first day of the Spirit of Adventure FKSS 2022 Tarifa

After participating in the first regatta of the year in Mallorca, the German Jannis Maus has returned to the Spirit of Adventure FKSS 2022 Tarifa, proclaiming himself the provisional leader of the queen category with a full victory on the first day of competition. The Chinese Hoaran Zhang and the Spanish Alejandro Climent finished the day with a provisional second and third place respectively with a tie on points between them.

The endless beach of Los Lances welcomed the Olympic kitefoil fleet with an encouraging forecast of winds from the west and intensity between thirteen and fifteen knots. During the morning, the mayor of Tarifa, Paco Ruiz, and the councilor for tourism, Lucía Trujillo, went to the Carbones 13 Beach Bar, where the press conference to present the event took place together with sailors Alejandro Climent, number 1 in the national ranking. , Margot Folgado, current leader of the FKSS 2022 in the women’s category and Tomás Pires de Lima, the fittest sailor of the Portuguese national team. Sergio W. Smit, director of the Formula Kite Spain Series circuit, presented the event and David Gadea, manager of Carbones 13, once again offered this fantastic venue for the event.

During the press conference, the mayor, after welcoming the sailors, declared “For the fourth consecutive year, Tarifa has once again become the epicenter of Olympic kitesurfing, receiving national and international sailors in the Formula Kite Spain Series. An event that year after year has been gaining its place in our municipality thanks to its professionalism and its clear commitment to bring this new and spectacular Olympic class to our beaches” .

Arriving at half past two in the afternoon, the Principal Regatta Officer, Alexandre Durán, raised the Delta flag, beginning the tests of the first day of regatta of the Spirit of Adventure FKSS 2022 Tarifa. Already in the water, the Open Pro fleet faced a total of six sleeves in which the German Jannis Maus gave no respite to his rivals.

After starting conservatively with the entire fleet, Maus quickly took advantage of his rivals, crossing the finish line in first place in each and every one of the races held. The German, returning to the beach, commented: “We have had some great tests on this first day in Tarifa with about fifteen knots of wind. We have completed a total of six tasks and I have been able to win them all, so I am looking forward to tomorrow to return to the race course”.

Following Maus, Chinese Olympic team sailor Hoaran Zhang and Spaniard Alejandro Climent were in a battle for provisional second place. Zhang crossed the finish line with three seconds and three thirds, while Climent achieved three seconds, two thirds and a fourth place, applying the discard system, both finished the first day in a tie on points, with Zhang in a provisional second place and Climent closing the podium.

On the other hand, the first women’s provisional podium had a clear Asian dominance, with Chinese team sailors Jingyue Chen and Chenxue Liu in first and second place respectively and Germany’s Leonie Meyer in a provisional third place.

The Advanced and F-one Amateur categories will begin the competition today, so they took advantage of the good wind conditions in Tarifa to assemble their equipment and go out to enter the vicinity of the regatta field.
