June 15, Mallorca: The RB bosses (Oliver Mintzlaff, Florian Scholz and Christopher Vivell) meet for the end-of-season talk on the Balearic island together with Domenico Tedesco (36). Even before the coach arrives, Götze comes around the corner, who is vacationing with his family in the same hotel and has not yet had a new club.
This idea came about together: The world champion later knocked on the room where the people of Leipzig were sitting and said: “Hello Domenico, I’m your first newcomer.”
Said and done. Tedesco is said to have looked completely surprised…
Götze to BILD: “Actually, I thought I was secretly and quietly with Markus Krösche (Eintracht sports director, ed.) to meet to talk about my move to Eintracht. But because of! Nobody could have guessed that Leipzig would do their season analysis in the same hotel on that very day. I bumped into Florian Scholz in the lobby. The prankster said I should burst into the room with Domenico Tedesco and surprise him.”
And further: “I did that and introduced myself to him as a newcomer. It was a bit ‘get it fun’ with me as a decoy. Domenico Tedesco’s face was worth it. I won’t soon forget his look.”
Shortly thereafter, it is known that Götze is negotiating with Eintracht. He later signs with the Europa League winners until 2025.
Leipzig coach Tedesco also had fun that day: “Our management let Mario burst into our meeting. It was a funny moment, but most of all I was happy to see Mario. We exchanged ideas, he’s a good guy.”
