While they seemed to form a united and close-knit duo since his arrival in the league, Luka Doncic and his mother, Mirjam Poterbin, are currently in the midst of a legal battle. A duel that has just been revealed, and whose reasons are surprising!
After a relatively shy start to the tournament for his standards, he has been starting to seriously rev up for a few days. No offense to the France team, which paid the price this Wednesday. Opposed to Vincent Collet’s men for the last match of the group stage, Luka Doncic pulled out the big game to allow his selection to grab first place in group B.
Author of a sensational performance, the slovenian star simply performed unheard of in the history of Eurobasket in its current format. An already incredible feat taking into account the adversity with which he had to deal, but even more so given the complicated individual context in which he was playing this match. Luka Doncic annoyed by his mother, the disturbing story
Before offering a recital against the Blues, and to impress the greatest with its perf, Doncic had to settle a funny legal problem which opposes him… to his mother, Mirjam Poterbin. Mark Stein reports:
On Tuesday, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic filed a petition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office seeking to revoke the trademark registration “LUKA DONCIC 7” currently owned by his mother, according to the law firm. Legal Brown Rudnick who represents Doncic.
Luka has been trying to regain full possession of his image and the brands associated with his name for several months. A logical approach undertaken by many figures in the league, but which poses a problem for him here. Unfortunately, while he is trying to register one under the name “LUKA DONCIC”, his mother would prevent him from doing so, she who refuses to let him have the rights to the one he had previously created.
A regrettable situation which therefore led to this legal battle against the backdrop of a family score settling, and which the young full-back would have preferred not to see spread according to Stein:
Informed sources say Doncic and his legal representatives have been trying for some time to prevent this trademark lawsuit from being made public, much like the action taken on Tuesday. (…) It is stated in the latter that Doncic has no affiliation with “LUKA DONCIC 7”, and that he does not endorse its products and services, nor the fact that he is associated with them.
While waiting to know the follow-up that will be given to this affair, it is clear that the Slovenian prodigy manages not to let himself be affected, since he has since been winning cards at the Euro!
While he has always had a good relationship with his mother, Luka Doncic must now face him in court to recover the penalty for possession of his image rights. The kind of family concern that the Slovenian rear would have deprived himself of!
